The BMW 7 Series has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The G80 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The 7 Series has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The G80 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the 7 Series xDrive’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The G80 doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

The BMW 7 Series’ optional Surround View offers available integrated front and rear camera washers, ensuring clear, all-weather visibility without the need for manual cleaning. In contrast, the Genesis G80 lacks camera washers, requiring you to manually clean the cameras for optimal performance.

Compared to metal, the 7 Series’ plastic fuel tank can withstand harder, more intrusive impacts without leaking; this decreases the possibility of fire. The Genesis G80 has a metal gas tank.

Both the 7 Series and the G80 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The 7 Series’ corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the G80’s (12 vs. 7 years).

There are over 72 percent more BMW dealers than there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the 7 Series’ warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the 7 Series’ reliability 14 points higher than the G80.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. J.D. Power ranks BMW above average in long-term dependability. With 24 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Genesis is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks BMW 16 places higher in reliability than Genesis.

The 740’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 94 more horsepower (394 vs. 300) and 117 lbs.-ft. more torque (428 vs. 311) than the G80 2.5T’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder. The 740’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 19 more horsepower (394 vs. 375) and 37 lbs.-ft. more torque (428 vs. 391) than the G80 3.5T’s standard 3.5 turbo V6. The 750e’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 108 more horsepower (483 vs. 375) and 125 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 391) than the G80 3.5T’s standard 3.5 turbo V6.

The 750e can travel with zero emissions for 35 miles. The G80 can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the 7 Series’ fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The G80 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the BMW 7 Series uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The G80 2.5T requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the BMW 7 Series higher (6 out of 10) than the Genesis G80 (5 to 6). This means the 7 Series produces up to 6.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the G80 every 15,000 miles.

The 7 Series’ standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the G80 2.5T are solid, not vented.

For better traction, the 7 Series has larger tires than the G80 (F:255/45R20 & R:285/40R20 vs. 245/50R18). The 7 Series’ tires are larger than the largest tires available on the G80 (F:255/45R20 & R:285/40R20 vs. F:245/45R19 & R:275/40R19).

The 7 Series’ standard 255/45R20 front and 285/40R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the G80 2.5T’s standard 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the 7 Series has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the G80 2.5T. The 7 Series’ optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels on the G80 Prestige.

The 7 Series 750e/760i offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The G80 doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the 7 Series uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the G80, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The 750e/760i offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Genesis doesn’t offer an active suspension on the G80.

The 7 Series has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The 7 Series’ height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The G80 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the 7 Series’ wheelbase is 8.1 inches longer than on the G80 (126.6 inches vs. 118.5 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the 7 Series is 1.4 inches wider in the front than the average track on the G80.

The 740 handles at .86 G’s, while the G80 pulls only .84 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the 7 Series a Large car, while the G80 is rated a Mid-size.

The 7 Series has 6.2 cubic feet more passenger volume than the G80 (110 vs. 103.8).

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the 7 Series’ available rear seats recline. The G80’s rear seats don’t recline.

The 7 Series’ instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The G80 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The 7 Series’ standard Comfort Access allows you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the car, all without removing the key from pocket or purse. Proximity Key standard on the G80 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear doors.

The 7 Series’ optional power side swing out doors make it much easier to load and unload kids and cargo. One touch opens the door, before you even get to the car. The G80 doesn’t offer a power rear door.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the 7 Series has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The G80 doesn’t offer cornering lights. The 7 Series also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the 7 Series’ passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The G80 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

Both the 7 Series and the G80 offer available massaging front seats. The 7 Series also offers optional massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging rear seats aren’t available in the G80.

Both the BMW 7 Series and the Genesis G80 have a standard Qi wireless phone charging system in the front seat. To easily keep personal devices charged in the rear seat, without cables tangling and wearing out, the 7 Series also offers an optional wireless charging system in the rear seat. The G80 does not.

The 7 Series is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The G80 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the 7 Series first among upper midsize premium cars in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The G80 isn’t in the top three.

The BMW 7 Series outsold the Genesis G80 by almost three to one during 2025.
