The iX’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Lyriq doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The iX has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Lyriq doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the iX. But it costs extra on the Lyriq.

The BMW iX’s optional Surround View is available with washers for its front and rear cameras, ensuring crystal-clear visibility in any weather condition. Conversely, the Cadillac Lyriq only offers a rear camera washer, which may not provide the same level of all-weather performance.

Both the iX and the Lyriq have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The iX’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the Lyriq’s (12 vs. 6 years).

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the iX for 3 years and 36,000 miles. BMW will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Cadillac only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Lyriq.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the iX’s reliability 16 points higher than the Lyriq.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that BMW vehicles are better in initial quality than Cadillac vehicles. With 4 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks BMW higher than Cadillac.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Cadillac vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks BMW 13 places higher in reliability than Cadillac.

The iX has a standard locking charge port which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The Lyriq doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

The iX’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Lyriq’s optional 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the iX offers optional 23-inch wheels. The Lyriq’s largest wheels are only 22-inches.

The iX has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The iX’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Lyriq doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The iX xDrive60 handles at .88 G’s, while the Lyriq pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The iX M70 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Lyriq Luxury AWD (25.5 seconds @ .74 average G’s vs. 26.4 seconds @ .71 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the iX has a 2.6 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Lyriq-V (8.8 vs. 6.2 inches), allowing the iX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The iX’s minimum ground clearance is 1.8 inches higher than on the Lyriq (8.8 vs. 7 inches).

The iX has 2.9 inches more front headroom, 5.2 inches more front hip room, 2.6 inches more front shoulder room, 1.9 inches more rear headroom and 6.1 inches more rear hip room than the Lyriq.

The front step up height for the iX is 1.8 inches lower than the Lyriq (17.4” vs. 19.2”). The iX’s rear step up height is 1.9 inches lower than the Lyriq’s (17.3” vs. 19.2”).

The iX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Lyriq with its rear seat up (35.5 vs. 28 cubic feet). The iX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Lyriq with its rear seat folded (77.9 vs. 60.8 cubic feet).

The iX’s cargo area is larger than the Lyriq’s in almost every dimension:

The iX’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Lyriq’s (3500 vs. 0 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Cadillac Lyriq AWD is only 3500 pounds. The iX offers up to a 6834 lbs. towing capacity.

A Condition-Based Service Display is standard on the iX to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for vehicle inspections, vehicle inspection based on actual driving conditions. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Cadillac doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Lyriq.

The iX offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, warning, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Lyriq doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

If the windows are left open on the iX the driver can close all of them at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Lyriq can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the iX has a standard rear wiper. The Lyriq doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Laser headlights, optional on the iX, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the Lyriq’s LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

The Lyriq’s cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The iX’s optional adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

According to iSeeCars.com the 2026 BMW iX retains 29.51% of its original value after 5 years, more than the 28.08% resale value of the 2026 Cadillac Lyriq after five years, which can save the BMW’s owner.
